Cabinet Styles & Door Overlays
The way the cabinet door fit over the cabinet is called the door overlay type.
There are several door overlays from which to choose.
Full Overlay cabinets have doors and drawers that are 1/8" apart. When you look at these cabinets you see the drawers and doors and
not much of the cabinet frame.
Standard Reveal or Standard Overlay cabinets have about 1 1/4"
spacing between the doors and drawer fronts. You will see the cabinet frame as
well as the door and drawer fronts.
Inset Cabinets have the door flush with the cabinet face. Inset
style is typically used for Shaker or Mission style cabinets to create an
authentic old fashioned look.
Door Types
The doors that actually cover your cabinets can be as simple or as embellished
as you wish. Some popular door styles include: Raised Panel, Flat Panel,
Mitered Corner, Glass door, Beadboard Panel, Slab, Panel, Arched Top, Cathedral
and Flat Panel with lip.
